‘The Different Military’ is a 27 minute documentary that focuses on the wrestle of atypical Pakistanis towards terrorism. Over 5,00zero members of the Pakistani military have died in fight and 40,00zero civilians have died as a consequence of terrorism and the struggle towards it since 2001. But this narrative appears to be altogether lacking from our international collective consciousness.
The Different Military shares the tales of two Pakistanis who’ve died preventing terrorists. We meet Imran and his mom Beyji who share with us the story of Saleem who served as a voluntary guard on the shrine of a Sufi saint, and sacrificed his life chasing after a suicide bomber liable for a devastating assault in Lahore, in 2010.
We additionally meet Zaraar, and his mother and father Mr. and Mrs. Zafar Abbasi, who misplaced their son Captain Bilal Zafar to the warfare towards terror. Bilal led a workforce of twenty comrades in a covert anti-terrorism operation in Swat Valley, to reclaim the district from the Taliban, in 2009. He left behind a legacy of bravery and hundreds of admirers who mourn him to today.
The movie is a private essay, seen by way of the eyes of the filmmaker who serves because the narrator/storyteller as she tries to elucidate to the viewers the complicated nature of preventing terrorism in Pakistan and the super braveness required to face up towards the enemies from inside.
